Brunching with Birdie

Brunching with Birdie

On what turned out to be a spontaneous weekend getaway in Geneva with a friend's younger sister, D happened upon the website of a cute little brunch spot that wasn't too difficult for us to get to from our airbnb in France (so international!). Birdie Food & Coffee was surprisingly busy for a cafe that looked like it was in the middle of nowhere (says the girl who isn't that familiar with Geneva and has virtually no sense of direction), but it seemed hidden enough that it could be considered someone's brunch spot - it just so happened that there are a lot of someones who think that about Birdie. Which is obviously a good sign.

And I get it! It's hipster without being in your face about it. Like, the kind of hipster that existed before hipster became hipster as we know it today. It's just naturally, casually hip. It's divided into two parts, one is sort of a take-away area with seating, and the other side with a separate door has more seating. But both are quite small. Combine that with lots of couples and friends meeting up for Sunday brekkie and you get a long-but-worthwhile wait. But don't worry, you can drink some of their Great (and beautiful) Coffee while you wait at one of their little tables outside. And since you have so much time to kill, you can take your time looking over every menu item, one by one, devouring the fresh ingredients with your eyes and teasing your mouth and salivary glands with brunch-dreams of what you'll get to taste just as soon as that couple quits taking their time, pays and puts on their coats! So, basically, once you do get to the table, you're all set to order and things move pretty fast from then on. Talk about delayed gratification.

Despite the place being crazy busy, the service is calm and attentive. And the food is amazing. We started with a carrot cake because life's short and all that (and also we were starving) and then moved on to their "Oui Monsieur" and a granola with yogurt and fruit. And then there's the latte too! Oh, it was all so good. It was fresh, worth it and it hit the spot. Do I recommend it? Oh, for sure! Just make sure you've got some time.
